Nearly Two Decades Across the Gambling Industry

I started as a poker writer in 2008, but my career hasn't stayed confined to one corner of gambling. I've covered everything from the World Series of Poker and online poker legislation to casino games, sportsbooks, sweepstakes casinos, prediction markets, and the companies behind them.

Gambling changes quickly, and understanding one part of the industry often helps you better understand another.

01

Poker

Poker is where my gambling career started, both as a player and a writer.

Before entering the industry, I traveled the country playing live tournaments. In 2008, I began professionally covering poker with live reporting from the World Series of Poker.

Since then, I've written poker news, strategy, tournament coverage, player profiles, interviews, online poker content, and industry analysis. I've covered multiple poker variants, with extensive experience in Seven-Card Stud 8 or Better and mixed games.

Online Casinos

Online casino content became a larger part of my work as my career expanded beyond poker.

I've researched and reviewed casinos from both the product and player perspectives, covering game libraries, software providers, bonuses, banking, cryptocurrency, KYC, withdrawals, mobile products, loyalty programs, and responsible gambling features.

A casino review shouldn't simply repeat what appears on the operator's website. Whenever possible, I cover what happens after registration: how the games perform, whether the promotions make sense, how verification works, and what the withdrawal experience actually looks like.

Sweepstakes Casinos

Sweepstakes casinos have become one of the largest areas of my current work.

I interact with dozens of sweepstakes casinos regularly, giving me firsthand experience with aspects of these products that can be hard to evaluate from the outside.

That includes promotional systems, daily bonuses, loyalty programs, verification, Sweeps Coin redemptions, gift-card redemptions, restricted states, social media promotions, and changes operators make to their products over time.

That experience has also given me opportunities to investigate unusual situations rather than simply report on them, including simultaneous promotional restrictions across multiple casinos and the relationships between operators behind different brands.

Sports Betting

My sportsbook work covers both the betting product and the experience surrounding it.

I've written sportsbook reviews and content covering betting markets, odds, promotions, live betting, payment methods, cryptocurrency, mobile betting, and operator features.

Sports betting also increasingly overlaps with other areas I cover, particularly online casinos and prediction markets. Understanding those relationships has become more important as gambling products continue to evolve.

Gambling Industry & Emerging Markets

Some of the most interesting gambling stories don't fit neatly into a single vertical.

I've covered gambling legislation and regulation, operator developments, software providers, payment issues, industry trends, and changes affecting players and gambling businesses.

More recently, that has included prediction markets and other products that challenge traditional definitions of gambling.

Having worked in the industry since 2008 gives me historical context for those developments. I've watched online poker go through Black Friday, the expansion of legal U.S. sports betting, the rise of sweepstakes casinos, and now the rapid growth of prediction markets.

The products change. Understanding why they're changing is often the more interesting story.

More Than Gambling

Over the years, my work has expanded beyond iGaming and into other verticals. This includes sports reporting, IT and technology content, product reviews, and promotional content with national brands like Dr. Squatch.

That versatility matters to me. Being able to adapt to different verticals, understand clients’ needs and messages, and handle different types of work has been a constant throughout my career.

It's the same reason I describe myself as a jack-of-all-trades. Specialization has value. So does being the person who can figure out what comes next.
